Exclusive Member Offer - Access to Business Finance from £5,000 to £500,000
Over the last six years the supply of funds for SME’s has grown phenomenally. The ability to borrow for any business is not an issue, it is the access that is the most difficult issue we need to overcome. We can help to find these sources of finance for your business. FinancemyBusinessonline and Merchant Money in partnership with the EIA give access to different funding options to suit most types of businesses.

We offer a variety of products with different repayment terms, from unsecured and secured loans to more flexible solutions like business cash advances. This is a unique opportunity with a dedicated link for EIA members to take advantage of this developing route to funding for the UK SME community.

Please see attached leaflet for further information. If you would like to know more the team can be contacted on 0203 813 8240 or by email to or by visiting

Sensor Technology Ltd

TorqSense Rotary Torque Sensor, made by Sensor Technology Ltd, are unlike traditional slip ring transducers.  They use a simple non-contact radio link for collecting real-time torque signals, letting machine builders and control engineers do away with expensive and temperamental slip rings, thus simply mounting the sensors and checking the radio connection is all that is required to set up a TorqueSense.

For further information contact Tony Ingham on 01869 238400 and see their website

The Genesis Initiative
The EIA attended the Genesis Breakfast and Senate meetings at the House of Commons on Wednesday 10 October 2018. The breakfast was attended by Bill Esterson MP, Shadow Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Shadow Minister for International Trade. Matters discussed at the Senate included the Government’s Late Payment Consultation, Access To Finance, Making Tax Digital Project, ongoing projects included the National Apprenticeship programme and apprenticeship levy. There were presentations from British Chambers of Commerce in Italy and Finland. It was suggested that contact also be made with the SME Alliance to explore possible collaboration.

Genesis launched its Making Tax Digital report on the government’s proposals to digitalise tax relationships, at a reception hosted by Mel Stride MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury. The report can be accessed via the following link.

Karen Finegold together with EIA Board Members Mac Ghadially and Andy Sandford attended the launch of the Improving Access To Finance for SMEs Report by the Genesis Initiative which we have attached to this newsletter.

The Genesis Senate discussed the new government consultation on payment practise see: at the Senate and following collaboration with a designated working party and the results of a survey, the Genesis response took the form of direct answers to the questions posed and have emphasised the following central points:

  • BEIS should focus on introducing e-invoicing technology and make it the Code of Practice standard, to move towards most payment being virtually instantaneous.

  • There should be a clear definition of unfair payment terms, using the Irish Republic’s approach and adopting 30-day payment term as the legal norm, on a comply or explain basis.

The SME Commissioner should be empowered, and the current advisory approach to individual cases should become an enforcement based one, where the Commissioner could work in partnership with business associations through simple employment tribunal-like structures to secure rapid adjudication.

We have attached a report on the survey sent to the 115 trade and professional associations forming the Genesis Senate.

Genesis have requested that if we have a campaigning issue that we would like to share within the SME sector, they are welcome for us  to submit this for their consideration.

Department for International Trade

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Business Support and Engagement held an evening reception at the House of Commons on Wednesday 31 October 2018. Russ Grazier from Barclays reiterated their stance of committing to providing export support to 1,000 UK businesses every year through their new Trade Centre in Birmingham which opened in September. It forms part of the bank’s strategy to boost British exports by helping companies both to start exporting sooner, and to sell more of their products overseas.

Baroness Farhead, Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion replied that the Government was listening to all concerns and that her department wanted to work more closely with trade associations to implement the Export Strategy.
